The prevalence of private brand labels is growing as budget-conscious consumers are looking for lower cost alternatives to comparable national brands. Retailers are now looking to introduce, or increase, private brand assortment as the expectation grows. But the need to maintain equal (or even higher) standards of value and quality are the keys to a successful product. To reach this level, retailers will need to develop, source and order product from suppliers across the globe – almost guaranteeing a range of new challenges and adding more risk to their supply chain strategy.
PDM (Product Data Management) is the process
of managing the evolution of a product, and
providing associated tools and applications
with the accurate product information. It
helps store and manage the product design and
manufacturing information.
The main objective of PDM is to create a single
repository for all the information about
a company's products and services, and ensure timely compilation
of information and
engineering data as it develops. A PDM system
is like an information infrastructure. It provides users with
support in performing their
tasks by means of different functional models
that it incorporates with other integrated software systems. PDM
is therefore both
a base for different systems, into which
other applications can be integrated.
When working on the same
project, designers
and engineers access different versions of
the latest data. This not only creates confusion
but also causes problems with the overall
management. All files and changes are stored
into a database and networked using a PDM
solution. Moreover, managers and executives
can clearly see the project progress, work
done by different individuals, and also determine
if any change of objective (from that of the
management) has occurred.
The Develop module in XpressCommerce® is the latest advancement of ecVision’s Product Lifecycle Execution™ (PLE™) solution that consolidates PDM, PLM and SCE functionality creating a unique offering that is a dynamic tool for product development and planning.
In this module, master data tables connect to serve as the sole source of product information. Linkage between the Model Master, Color Master, Pattern Master, Material Master and Product Master provide the information base needed to collaborate with vendors and factories. This data is accessed throughout the lifecycle and keeps the product as the focal point for all future activity.
Once the important design decisions have been made, use the Develop module to directly turn the product data into costing scenarios using the Source module.
